France suffered another defeat as their search for a win continues as
they went down to hosts Slovakia to remain in relegation trouble
although the point they collected from their overtime loss to Denmark in
their first game may be enough to save them.
France were 3-0 down in the second period but scored twice to pull them a goal behind heading into the third period but the Slovaks were too strong and clinical as they ran out 6-3 winners.
The French have scored in every match so far but have only scored a total of 11 goals and will need to take any chances they get against Finland who have only conceded seven goals from their five matches so far.
FINLAND
Finland qualified for the quarter-finals and currently top the Group A standings after a comfortable shutout victory over Great Britain with the Finns maintaining their impressive defensive record.
With 13 points, the Finns cannot drop out of the top 4 but will be looking to finish top of the group and can move a step closer to that with a win over France who are yet to win a game in the tournament so far.
Finland have suffered a blow ahead of this contest as 20-year-old forward Eetu Luostarine was ruled out for the remainder of the tournament after suffering a knee injury against Great Britain.
THE PREDICTION
Finland have conceded four fewer goals than any other side in Group A with their defence helping them to top the standings. They now face France who are in danger of relegation having failed to win a game and will be on the end of another loss here. Finland will need to be more clinical in front of goal and should be able to create plenty of chances against the French in a victory that will put them a game away from qualifying for the quarter-finals as group winners.
The Slovak national hockey team won all three points in their fifth match of the 2019 IIHF World Championships against France. The match ended with the result 3:6.
Slovakia's much-needed victory means that, in theory, the national team still has a chance to succeed to the quarterfinal.
Richard Panik scored the first goal of the match. Organisers awarded him the title of the best player of the match for team Slovakia
